Current organisational learning and development departments are facing many challenges in our changing workplaces. Not only are traditional models of designing, developing and delivering training being scrutinised from a cost perspective, organisations are now questioning the effectiveness of their learning methods to produce the desired impact.

Enterprise social networks (ESNs) have further contributed to the changes in a connected workplace where learning is less likely to occur solely in a classroom and the value of user-generated content shared through technology-enabled collaborative approaches to work are present.

How are instructional designers adapting to these significant changes? Next week (Wed 19th March) the LearnX Foundation  are convening the iDesignX conference dedicated specifically to addressing these challenges and hearing from organisational practitioners.

I’ll be running 2 sessions:

  • User-generated content for learning design
A 20 minute interactive session that will look at how a learner designer can create meaningful learning from user-generated content by leveraging expertise within the organisation to extend existing learning programs.
  • Technology and learning design in the real world
A moderated panel session that will consider the challenges facing eLearning design and the further development of eLearning solutions for continued workforce performance. Joining me on the panel are: Lisa Munro, Aussie Home Loans; Ray Joeh, John Holland Group; Gareth George, American Express; and Nathalie Nuijens, GRC Solutions.

Conference details:
When: Wed 19th March 2014
Where: Dockside, Cockle Bay Wharf, Sydney

Hope to see you there!
