I have a couple of conferences that I’m attending coming up in May and June that may be of interest, both with a strong community, non-profit and government flavour:
Connecting Up 2009 – 11th-12th May
The first is the Connecting Up 2009 conference, on the 11th-12 May where I’ll be talking about how non-profit (and government organisations) can have more impact using social media and social computing approaches. Using case studies I’ll be explaining both the what and how social software made a difference. I’ll be presenting during the 2.30pm break out on Day 2.
Connecting Up 2009 is the annual conference for Connecting Up Australia, an organisation that is focused on community information provision and Information & Communications Technology (ICT) capacity building in the non-profit sector. Check out the conference program, because the range of speakers and topic is actually relevant to any business.
Web 2.0 in Government Conference 2009
The second is a one-day Government 2.0 conference being organised by Frocomm on 24th June. The themes for this conference are:
- What are the opportunities and challenges faced by Government departments involved in eGovernment, or Government 2.0, initiatives?
- How can the web be used by Government to deliver better outcomes for Australian citizens?
I’ll be running a break out session in the afternoon about social media for social change. This will be in the form of a mini-workshop including some case studies and discussion.
At the very end of the day I’ll also be hosting a live videoconference question and answer session with a Headshift friend from the UK. We’re just finalising details, but it will be a chance for conference participants to reflect on the discussions of the day and learn from the UK experience of Government 2.0.
There will be more details coming on the conference page on the Frocomm Website… so keep checking back – I’ve seen the draft program and (other than those fine looking people you’ll see on the site right now) there are range people from state and federal government, non-profit, some international guests and the commercial sector is also represented.
BTW I also hope to be part of Senator Kate Lundy’s first ‘Public Sphere’ meeting on the 7th May, on the topic of Highspeed Broadband for Australia.
